Rock anchors may be steel rods fastened into rock using cement grouts or epoxy resins. Their purpose is as fastening points for steel mesh when sprayed concrete is to be applied, to fasten mesh only where a vertical rock surface is unstable, cables, wires etc.

Other propriety branded rockbolts, such as CT Bolts, may be used where higher load capacities are required.
